Travel and flyfishing in the Russian Far East
The name “Uchur” comes from the Even word “uchir” which means “loach” or "whirlwind"
Uchur River
The
most interesting part of the
Fishermen
come to Uchur for Siberian taimen and lenok (two species). Taimen are good size;
the 15-20 kg fish are not rare. The best habitats (and the easiest place to
catch taimen with a fly) are long narrow trenches (deeper areas) in pebble
riffles. In the river and especially in the bays and lake there are many pikes,
which can be over a meter long. Yellow perch up to 1-1,5 kg is rather common in
slow areas with cover. It happens to catch a nice perch with a surface fly (mouse
imitation).
Uyan is a tributary of the Uchur. The fish fauna and fishing peculiarities of the Uyan are similar to Uchur, but it is twice smaller and because of this easier for flyfishing.
